在电视游戏业内，无论是欧美日本，宫本茂的地位都可以用至高无上来形容。那么在普通百姓的眼中，在大众媒体的评判下，宫本茂的威望又能走到何种地步呢？

美国最著名时尚杂志《名利场（Vanity Fair）》日前评选出了自1913年创刊以来的全球最具影响力100人名单，其覆盖面遍及世界各地和各行各业，入选者从政界要人、娱乐明星到企业大亨和专家学者应有尽有。

任天堂首席游戏设计师，马里奥和大金刚的生父宫本茂在这份100人名单中排名第73，他也是此次评选中惟一入选的游戏开发者。

另外一名与游戏产业相关的入选者是现在地球上最大规模第三方游戏发行商Activision Blizzard公司的首席执行官Bobby Kotick。不过这位掌管着《使命召唤》和《魔兽世界》等全世界最赚钱游戏发行权的大公司老板，在此次排行中的成绩并不十分理想，只比宫本茂高一名排在第72位。
